History

On 17 November 1872 the Flotilla School opened at Galați, the first organized form of training for the people on Romanian ships. From there the thread runs to today’s Naval Academy: in 1901 and 1909 the higher steps appear, and after 1990 the institution in Constanța takes academy rank.

Here officers are trained for the Naval Forces and specialists for civil navigation. The campus faces the Black Sea; on exercise days you see crews, not tourists with a guide. The name “Mircea cel Bătrân” is the same as that of the training ship, so the link is practical, not only of the textbook.

Access to the precinct is controlled. If you want to understand the place, look at the public ceremonies (year openings, Navy days) and at the ships in the roads; the rest is seen from the gate.
