History

In June 1882 Mihai Eminescu stayed ten days at the Hotel d’Angleterre, from which he looked at the sea and wrote to Veronica Micle. On the same site, in 1909, Hotel Regina opened, an Art Nouveau building tied to the hand of Daniel Renard, architect of the Casino.

Today we call it Hotel Intim. The façade still holds the air of the peninsula before the wars, with windows toward the sea and a ground floor that passed through 1928, through nationalizations and through rebuilds almost to 2017. It is not a new tower; it is a building on a human scale, a few steps from the Casino.

Stop on the pavement, look up, and link the building to a walk toward the cliff. If you find the door open, the lobby is worth a glance; if not, the façade and the plaque with the poet’s memory are enough.
