History

In the park in front of the Ion Jalea Museum, at the crossing of Boulevard Elisabeta and Arhiepiscopiei Street, the relief “People with Bulls” has stood since 1964. The author is Ion Jalea (1887-1983), the same sculptor whose name the building behind it bears.

The composition is cut in plane, not a statue in the round: bodies and animals caught in a movement of effort, without a high plinth to separate it from the paths. You read it in two minutes, if you stop, or miss it completely if you hurry toward the Casino.

Then go into the museum. Many pieces there show you the same hand and the same theme of the body in tension, this time at studio scale, not park scale.
