History
After 1904, when Anghel Saligny’s harbour was changing the city, inspector Ion Bârzănescu and engineer Zahariadi, works supervisor, belonged to the world of the quays. Casa Bârzănescu, a category B monument, stands in that network: Art Nouveau / Secession, a terrace, a façade in registers.
The year 1896 is in the people’s biography, not necessarily on the foundation stone. The building shows money from a high harbour salary, not from an estate. The ironwork and the rhythm of the windows show if you look above the ground floor.
Link the visit with a descent to today’s harbour. You understand why such houses appeared then, not 20 years earlier.
