History

From 1895 Gheorghe Zottu was president of the Constanța Tribunal. The house that bears his name is a category B monument, the dwelling of a magistrate in a county only just taken into Romanian administration.

We do not have a thick album of decorative details, but the volume is of a late-nineteenth-century urban residence: a solid wall, regular windows, little parade. It says more about who ran justice than about an export style.

Put it in a walk of magistrates’ and physicians’ houses (Pilescu, Zottu), to see how the Romanian state settled in the city, not only Greek trade.
