History
In June 1913, Ștefan Hagi Tudorache applied, in the name of the “Mercur” Cooperative, for a hotel permit. The works, held between 1913 and 1916, produced an Art Nouveau building facing Ovidiu Square, in a time of Balkan wars and of a European war that was drawing near.
After 1927 it passed through the hands of the Marmorosch Blank Bank, then, from 1948, of the National Bank. Restored in 2019, it shows the ironwork and stucco again, but the door is that of an institution, not a hotel.
You look from outside. If you catch a museum night or an open-doors day, go in; otherwise, the façade and the angle toward the square are enough.
