History
Beside the Roman Mosaic Edifice stretch the ruins of the public baths of Tomis, dated to the third–fourth centuries. It is not a decorative corner: the thermae were a complex with halls of hot, cold and tepid water, plus passage spaces, as a Roman port city required.
Archaeologists have brought out thick walls, channels and traces of underfloor heating. The monument is category A, so the visiting route is short but dense: it is worth correlating with the mosaic beside it, to understand how the warehouses, the baths and life at the shore sat together.
Wear low shoes and bring water; in summer the stone heats, and the panel explanations stand in for a guide if you do not catch a guided tour.
