History
A few kilometres from Constanța, between shore and hills, stretches the largest salt lake in the country: more than 10 km² of heavy water, known from antiquity for its sapropelic mud. The salt is high, which is why it is so often set beside the Dead Sea, though the landscape is Dobrogean: reeds, low banks, a smell of hydrogen sulphide when it is warm.
The mud is used at Eforie Nord and Eforie Sud, in treatment bases. The lake is also a Natura 2000 site, so it is not only a vast bathtub: in winter birds come, in summer you should stay on the arranged beaches, not anywhere on the bank.
For a mud bath, take a towel you do not mind and a shower after. For a walk, keep the bank toward Techirghiol or Eforie, avoid midday hours in August and do not enter the water if you have open wounds.
