Colindatul în sat
In Romanian villages in Dobrogea, carols are sung on Christmas Eve, 24 December, at the gate. For Lipovans the calendar is Julian: Christmas falls on 7 January. It is not the same village or the same evening. The page does not announce which yard will sing.
Sat românesc
Carolling is a house custom: the group waits at the gate, sings, is invited or not. As a guest, ask before you approach. Do not enter uninvited, do not film children, and leave when told. Strangers on the lane with speakers is not carolling.
Sat lipovenesc
Old-rite communities, including those around Razim and on the Danube branch, keep holidays on the Julian calendar. If you arrive on 25 December in a Lipovan village, it is not their Christmas. On 7 January the same rule holds: gate, permission, no camera in the yard. Sarichioi and Slava Rusă are lived-in villages, not a stage.
Unde colinda nu e obiceiul casei
In Turkish or Crimean Tatar neighbourhoods and villages, winter celebration is not Christmas Eve carols. Do not go to a mosque or a yard in Cobadin to “catch the custom”. Their Bayram and fast follow another calendar and we do not publish it as a visiting schedule.
Noaptea
After the village sleeps, a group at windows frightens people. The road between villages after 17:00 in December is working darkness: night on the village road. We do not publish a calendar of groups.
